What is a Credit Score?

A credit score is a 3-digit number (300–900) that represents your creditworthiness. In India, CIBIL (TransUnion CIBIL) is the most widely used credit bureau. Scores above 750 are considered excellent, while scores below 650 make loan approvals difficult.

What Factors Affect Your Credit Score?

The five main factors are: Payment History (35%) — the most important factor, Credit Utilization (30%) — how much of your credit limit you use, Credit History Length (15%) — how long you've had credit, Credit Mix (10%) — variety of credit types, and New Credit Inquiries (10%) — recent applications for credit.

How to Improve Your Credit Score

Always pay bills on time, keep credit card utilization below 30%, avoid applying for multiple loans simultaneously, don't close old credit cards, and check your credit report regularly for errors. Consistent good behavior improves scores over 6–12 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from my actual CIBIL score?
Your actual CIBIL score is pulled from official credit bureau records and reflects exact repayment history, outstanding balances, and all credit inquiries. This tool is a self-assessment based on your answers — it gives a directional estimate but is not an official credit report.
How often should I check my credit score?
Check your credit report at least once a year from CIBIL, Experian, CRIF, or Equifax. You're entitled to one free report per year from each bureau. Use our estimator anytime to track your credit health direction.
Does checking my own credit score affect it?
No. Checking your own score is a "soft inquiry" and does not affect your credit score. Only "hard inquiries" — when lenders check your score during a loan application — can slightly lower your score.
