What is an FD Calculator?
A Fixed Deposit Calculator helps you calculate the maturity amount you will receive at the end of your FD tenure. It takes into account the principal, interest rate, tenure, and compounding frequency to give you an accurate estimate.
FD Maturity Formula
FD maturity is calculated using: A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t), where P = Principal, r = Annual rate, n = Compounding frequency per year, t = Tenure in years. Most Indian banks compound interest quarterly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is FD interest taxable?▾
Yes. FD interest is fully taxable as per your income tax slab. Banks deduct TDS at 10% if interest exceeds ₹40,000 per year (₹50,000 for senior citizens). You can submit Form 15G/15H to avoid TDS if your income is below the taxable limit.
What is the DICGC deposit insurance limit?▾
DICGC insures bank deposits up to ₹5 lakh per depositor per bank. This includes both principal and interest across all types of deposits in the same bank.
Can I break an FD before maturity?▾
Yes, premature withdrawal is allowed but usually attracts a penalty of 0.5–1% on the applicable rate. Some tax-saver FDs (5-year lock-in) cannot be broken prematurely.
